Raku Pottery Firing

Potter Paul Bradley will demonstrate raku firing techniques. Raku is a firing technique rooted in Japanese tradition and associated with Japanese tea ceremonies.
In raku firing, the object is heated until the glaze surface melts. The glowing hot object is then removed from the kiln and different techniques are applied to create certain surface effects.

During the festival, a raku object will be made out of ceramic ware. Visitors are welcome to take part in the process of removing the raku object from the kiln and working on the surface to create different looks.
The finished raku objects will together form a work of art and will be donated to the Eckerö Post and Customs´ House.Here you can read more about Paul Bradley:
